History was made Saturday night at the AMA GNC Indy Mile. Bryan Smith rode a Kawasaki to first place in the main event marking the first time the brand has ever won a GNC Mile. Earlier in the evening Bonneville Performance's Shawn Baer made a little history of his own when he rode the Triumph to the victory in the semi. It was the first victory at a national event for the BP team which eventually finished 16th in the main event. It was a huge night for non-Harley riders as Larry Pegram rode his Ducati to a victory in the other semi. All told 4 brands picked up wins on Saturday night, with non-Harley's taking 4 of the 7 races contested - the most in decades. Congrats to Shawn and the Gately Bros. for reaching another milestone. We'll have the Bonneville Performance race report and more photos up tomorrow.

From the Mahony Photo Archives:
Saturday night is the annual running of one of flat track's premier events - The Indy Mile. Back in 1969 Larry Palmgren became the only man to put a Triumph in the winner's circle on the legendary track. Here are Larry (#12) and his brother Denny's Triumph 750s in the early '70s.

Good luck to Shawn Baer and the Gately Bros. Bonneville Performance team this weekend. We'll have a report and photos up early next week.

Here's an update from Bill Gately:
We have had a series of electrical mishaps. Batteries, broken wires -- and everything was new at the start of the race. But for these events I am certain we would have transferred to the main even at Lake Odessa and at Calistoga. Shawn was getting great starts and running in the front at the Calistoga heat race . On the third start in our heat (there were two crashes) we moved up to second behind Chris Carr until we lost our battery on the back straight away. We ran slow all the way through the semi suffering from a frayed wire in the harness--something we did not find until we took it all apart.

We did not get our set up right for the Hagerstown race until late in the day--we have had no history there to fall back on--it has always been our bad luck track. This is the first race since 2005 that we actually completed the event with no mechanicals. We are looking forward to the Indy Mile and the rest of the season. We have finally cured the electrical issue and Shawn is stoked for Indy. As a side not we did win first in the show at Calistoga in the
Street Tracker Class.

1966 TT Special

This TT Special is a good candidate for restoration. It was bought 'barn fresh' in a lot of 5 bikes. I have a clear title and matching numbers (I know the history of this bike, it's the real deal...). The second owner converted the bike for street use, rode it for a while, had the engine re-built using new barrels and pistons, etc. (I have receipts, the re-build was done by Keith Johnson), and sold. The new owner partially dis-assembled it, and put it into storage. I took the bike out of storage, cleaned it thoroughly, and completely dis-assembled it. I replaced the stem bearings with tapered rollers and put it into as near stock condition as was possible. Runs and shifts good. It is pictured with concentrics, but comes with stock monoblocs. I do not have a seat, chain guard, or left side cover (seat pictured is for photos only). Comes with new alloy fenders and new TT pipes, new after market ET ignition coils. The tank is stock, no leaks, needs paint and Kreem or some other coating, petcocks are new after market. The tank badges need re-chroming, comes with NOS knee pads. Wheels and rims are in good condition. Fork lowers have been chromed, has new upper fork covers and gaiters. I have dealer status with most of the British parts suppliers and will be glad to supply available parts for restoration or hot-rodding at my cost plus shipping. I will also deliver to most anywhere in the Continental U.S. for the cost of fuel (18 miles per gallon ). More photos available on request.

This bike is located in Onalaska, WA. Feel free to e-mail with questions, leave phone number and I'll call. $6500 firm - Will consider trade for Triumph 675 Street Triple. hman500@hotmail.com

1969 Triumph Bonneville

Set up like a TT racer with Ceriani forks, quick change wheels, Hearst Airhart disc brakes, Bates headlight, runs great. Comes w/small stock triumph tank and tachometer w/drive. Located in Sacramento, CA.
