Heard from George Ireland last week. George is the webmaster of the Racer Reunion website - a wonderful source for the history of flat track racing on the East Coast. They have photo albums, memorabilia pages, memorial pages, and videos posted...all keeping the East Coast tradition alive. He let me know they recently posted the first of many photo albums from the collection of Don and Beebe Smith. These photos came to him from Mark Bailey, who's father Bill received the photos upon the passing of Don Smith. Don and his brother Beebe were legendary Triumph racers and tuners from the Washington D.C. area. They were active throughout the East Coast from the 1940's through the early 60's. The photos in this album are mainly from early Daytona Beach races. I have posted a few below and the rest can be viewed over at Racer Reunion. George is currently scanning in more photos from the Smith collection and will have more albums online soon. Thanks George!
